2026 Umoja Rites of Passage Celebration

Umoja Rites of Passage is open for graduating seniors in Washington County. This is our annual community celebration where we honor the transition of our youth into adulthood. We ask that students register no later than May 15th in order to get their Kente Cloth stole. Kente Cloth stoles are not provided to students who do not register and attend the event.
Parents, please note that senior students should submit their own registration. Parent registrations have historically caused communication confusion, impacting student participation. A ticketing link for families of registered students will be sent in April.
Our Freshman Rising Ceremony is a part of the Rites of Passage, where we celebrate our 8th graders transitioning into high school. Each registered student receives a cord and community recognition.

The Umoja Rites of Passage Celebration is a Community Celebration to Honor Black Graduates in Washington County is a way for our local community to engage in our cultural tradition of rites of passage, honoring the African ritual initiation of our youth into adulthood. This celebration also allows us as a community to come together across generations to honor the legacy of civil rights leaders, trailblazers, and family members, who, in the face of discrimination, segregation, and other institutional barriers, worked so hard to create the educational opportunities we have today.
